Explanation of the Four Mental States Achieved Using Binaural Beats

To achieve different states of mind without much practice, you can use what are referred to as binaural beats. These beats allow you to “trick” your mind into tuning into them. Depending on the frequency you are focused on, you can force your brain into different states that will help with concentration, weight loss, increase learning, achieving lucid dreams, sleep, and a number of other ones.

Over more than 150 years, it has been discovered by scientists that different states of mind are related to different frequencies. As an example, if you tuned your brain to a frequency of about 9 to 14 Hz (Hertz is the number of changes per minute), this would be associated with a relaxed state, or a state where you are reflecting on something. What binaural beats make it easy to do is to achieve this type of state. Not to mention, getting yourself into the brainwave state you would like to achieve is easy with just a CD or MP3 player.

In order to get your brain to tune into a specific frequency, different sounds can be administered to each ear. In the case of binaural beats (there are also other beats called isochronic and monaural beats, but we’ll use binaural as the example here), a tone is administered to in each ear. One tone may be 100 Hz, the other may be played at 108 Hz. This creates a binaural “beat” with the same frequency as the difference of the two (8 Hz). The frequency of 8 Hz corresponds with the theta state of mind which is good for creating ideas.

The frequencies can be classified into four categories, with each category focusing on a different state of mind. The names of these frequencies should be very familiar to you, as the names are commonly used when talking about other topics, but mostly when talking about binaural beats. These frequencies are called theta, delta, alpha, and beta.

Starting in the 13 Hz to the 25 Hz range is the beta frequency range. In this range, your brain can focus on reducing and eliminating stress and anxiety, as well as keeping alert.

From the range of 8 to 12 Hz, you will be able to increase learning (”superlearning”), think more positively, and feel some light relaxation. This range is referred to as the alpha range.

The third category is the theta frequencies. Frequencies in the theta range are from 4 to 7 Hz. This range of frequencies can result in increased focus, improved memory, deep relaxation, and is good for meditation.

Delta frequencies occur at less than 4 Hz. Deep, dreamless sleep, increased immune functions, lucid dreaming and losing awareness of your body can occur in this range.

As you can clearly see, there are a huge number of benefits that binaural beats have to offer… And what is mentioned here doesn’t cover each one of them either. What is wonderful about them is that they require no practice at all — Just someone with an open mind to get started.
