Out Of Body - Is It Really Possible?
Posted on Monday, July 12th, 2010 at 10:18 amThe phrase ‘Out of Body’ refers to having an experience of floating out of your own body and watching it and the world from a distance. A rare gift and a difficult ability to develop, it is similar in concept to autoscopy, which refers to floating out of body as well as ‘astral projections’ where different astral planes exist and the spirit leaves its own physical body to travel to these higher planes.
The five stages of an out of body experience involve the withdrawal, cataleptic, detachment, free movement and re-entry phases. At first, the body withdraws itself from the external environment not responding to any of its stimuli. This phase is similar to that of sleeping apart from the fact that your mind is focused.
The second stage of the out of body experience involves the paralysis of the body. In this stage the body faces muscle rigidity and goes into a comatose condition where there is absolutely no interaction whatsoever with the external environment. Some common sensations in this stage involve intense vibrations, tingling, shivering, hearing of loud noises and sometimes sight through closed eyes.
The third stage of separation is perhaps the most important and crucial phase of an out of body experience where your perceptual existence separates and travels forth from your physical body. Still accompanied by strong sensations, it is the stage where people fail, the physical pull and emotional fears not letting the separation to take place. Remember that in case you are inducing an OBE, even the smallest of fear or anxiety regarding whether you can come back or not will result in your body pulling you back. Complete relaxation and letting your spirit loose can only achieve successful separation.
During and after leaving the body, the strong pull from the body hinders to a certain extent at first but after one moves forward a bit of distance, all obstructions cease and the spirit enjoys full freedom to move to anyplace it wants. It observes the physical body and the world from a distance and travels to different planes and different ethereal realms of the world.
The final stage of the out of body experience involves you coming back to your physical body. Either you will feel the perceptions to slowly fade away with you waking up from a dream like trance or it may also happen that sudden fear of going too far away from the body results in sudden ’sucking back’ of your free self into the body once again.
Out of body experiences are rare and extremely difficult to induce. But in talking about conducive conditions facilitating such experience, mention may be made of near death experiences and sleep. In the first case, many recorded incidents show that people who have been victims of drowning, motor accidents and the like have felt themselves going out of their body for a brief period of time. Some have even seen the accident to happen from outside. Apart from this, out of body experiences almost all the time is linked with sleep. Either it happens before, after or during sleep as in the case of lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming is when only the body sleeps but the mind is conscious, focused and in control of the dreams. It may be at this time that the person leaves the body and traverses to other astral planes.
If you want to induce out of body experience then the two best techniques would either be mental or technological. The first instance includes meditation in increasing one’s self awareness, control over conscious and development of the power to channel one’s energy and control the mind in order to achieve whatever desired. Going to the technological perspective, the use of binaural beats have become quite popular in recent times. This consists of hearing two different sound vibrations in each ear which synchronizes in the brain to create a mental condition that is conducive to an out of body experience. It can be concluded that whatever the technique is, out of body sensation induction is difficult and requires heightened suggestibility of mind. However, once gone through with it, it is something that is unexplainable and an experience of a lifetime.
