Retreat Culture: A Growing Trend
Posted on Tuesday, April 20th, 2010 at 3:47 pmRetreat-styled vacations are becoming increasingly more popular and vacationers want a healthier choice. We are surrounded by a failing healthcare system, a weak economy, and a suffering planet. Wellness retreats are created to increase quality of life, to reduce stress, and to enjoy life. Anamaya Resort and Retreat Center in Montezuma, Costa Rica has designed a number of retreat packages that follow this mandate. The all-inclusive vacation model that most travelers are exposed to may actually be doing more harmful than helpful.
It could be argued that the typical all-inclusive resort does not encourage healthy behaviors. Over eating and an increase in alcohol consumption is encouraged and customary. Vacationers are also not really getting a true impression of the Culture for the Country that they are guests of by staying at an all-inclusive. Most people go on vacation to relax but does this environment genuinely diminish stress?
Retreat type vacations are becoming increasingly popular and therefore a “Retreat Culture” is starting to develop. Travelers who want a new vacation experience have found a variety of health, wellness and adventure retreats at Anamaya Retreat Center. There are different retreats to suit all needs. They can be creative, romantic, rejuvenating and more. The individualized packages are extremely well priced which is another great aspect.
Spa and yoga retreats are very common but the list of ideas is certainly endless. You can find retreats for creative writing, body detoxification and cleansing, painting, spiritual healing, dancing, circus performing, and more. Most retreats have a theme associated to them to meet the needs of their guests. How do you want to spend a week away from the normalcy of life? At Anamaya Retreat Center you also have the added benefit of spending the week in paradise enjoying the beauty of both the ocean and the rainforest in charming cabinas.
Common with retreat vacations is a focus on serving healthy and organic food. The science behind food health is relatively new, but Anamaya Resort is dedicated to creating menus with a lot of thought and consideration. Relationships with local farmers are important as well as being able to cater to any dietary need. Another feature common within current retreats is time dedicated to learning about raw food and live food benefits.
Anamaya Resort and other retreat centers like it are also extremely convenient for retreat leaders. Most yoga instructors, for example, don’t own their own studios all over the world so facilities that can host their retreats are a welcomed resource. Daniella Cotreau of Body Temple Yoga says, “Leading a retreat at Anamaya is such a delight. The Yoga Deck is by far the best place I have ever taught yoga. I will never forget that glorious and expansive view of the ocean. The food is amazing. Oscar is a wonderful chef and the Staff are all such lovely and helpful people. Myself and my students received much more than expected. Look forward to doing it again!” The location for a vacation retreat needs to contribute to the feeling of having a vacation. There are a number of retreats that are held near my hometown but I don’t know if that would be as appealing to me. Indonesia, Costa Rica and India are prominent and exotic vacation destinations, and are popular locations with retreat leaders.
