The Facts And Fiction Of Astral Traveling

Posted on Sunday, August 1st, 2010 at 4:41 am

Astral traveling refers to the ability to set apart your astral self or your subtle within, from your organic body and to project it outside for the sake of traveling to higher realms of consciousness. Therefore we can say that it is a phenomenon where the soul departs from the body temporarily and goes to high astral planes, seeing his own body and the world from some distance.

Astral traveling as an activity has been present for a long time. Sages in the ancient time who meditated and lived in mountain caves and hailed from spiritually advanced civilizations like those of Egypt , India etc, were famous for attaining state of trance and wandering spiritually across the geographical and time boundaries of the physical universe.

Astral traveling may be experienced at a time of near death instances or at the time of lucid dreaming. For example, survivors of road accidents or drowning have given accounts of seeing their own accidents beforehand, as if seen in a movie.

Astral traveling during lucid dream or Meditational practices are also common. Lucid dreaming in simple terms refers to the art of passing to the realms of dreams with a conscious and wakeful mind. Thus, when a person is aware that he is dreaming, he is said to be in the state of lucidity and here he might experience leaving his own body and traveling to other layers of consciousness.

Astral traveling is a difficult feat to achieve. A person needs to make meditation a part and parcel of his life in order to gain more control over his sub conscious mind. Necessary prearrangements are also important like arranging for a calm and peaceful dimly lit room without electronic equipment interference. Moreover abstain from having food that generate heat and increase the no. of thoughts and clear your mind from all negative thoughts.

One can achieve astral traveling by attaining a state of trance through meditation. You can imitate the REM sleep mode that is actually the last epoch of our sleep stage. Fast eye movement and intensive brain activity are its characteristics. The body should be relaxed and put to sleep, but the mind should be awake and focused. You can think of yourself floating out of the body or use a rope like structure to pull yourself out. You have to transmit all your body energy to enhance this vision to experience it like reality.

Getting out from the body is the primary problem faced during astral traveling. Even if there is the smallest of doubts in your mind, you will be stuck in your body. You should have complete unhindered faith in yourself to achieve the desired goal. If you are in constant thought and doubt of your actions in leaving the body, you may actually fail in doing so.

The second problem faced in astral traveling is during the time when you have floated away from the body and you are moving up. You should note that if there is even the slightest of doubts about the distance you are traveling, or whether you can get back to your physical body or not, it will cause your astral self to be pulled into your physical body by force and you will suddenly wake up. You should be calm and fearless and have faith in yourself to experience this wonderful phenomenon of astral traveling.

Astral Projection Methods For Beginners

Posted on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 at 6:07 am

The methods of astral projection vary, but each requires that an individual quiet his or her mind before attempting any subsequent steps in the process. Proper, focused relaxation is necessary in reaching beyond the physical limitations and exploring the multifaceted universe around us, and although this may seem an effortless endeavor, it is anything but.

A relaxed state that is also focused is not something easy to get into. Relaxing every muscle while keeping the mind alert and focused in a must for astral projection. Many people fail at astral projection because the end up asleep due to the fact that they cannot get into a deep relaxed state without also relaxing their mind.

Begin the focused relaxation phase by first dressing in comfortable clothing, then sitting in a chair where it is unlikely one will be disturbed. Lying down is not recommended for beginners, as it is too easy to lose one’s grasp on his or her concentration and give in to the pulls of sleep.

Once seated comfortably, imagine that tension is a fabric bandage that has been wrapped over every inch of the body — much like a mummy - that tightly constricts even the smallest of toes. Next, imagine those small toes being unwrapped. Warm blood flow returns, as does the feeling of cool air to the skin’s surface. Imagine the same process for each individual toe until all ten toes have been “freed.”

Imagine next the balls of the feet, the arches, the heels and the ankles also being unwrapped in this way. Continue the process until the chin, the sinus cavities of the face, and the tip of the scalp are all free.

You should be in total relaxation, but still clear minded. You are ready to try one of the methods of astral projection.

A main astral projection method is referred to as the rope method. Before you start the relaxation phase you will tack a rope to the ceiling above you. It should be easy to touch with your eyes closed. This helps you with visualization.

With the rope in place your astral fingers can find it easily. You will float up to the rope and be able to use it during your astral projection. You may not find it too easy to use the rope at first, but eventually you will be able to do it easily. Keep focused.

Find the rope and picture your astral body leaving your physical body and climbing the rope. Your astral body doesn’t weight anything so give no consideration to weight. Stay focused on climbing and moving up the rope. You may become a bit dizzy, but try not to focus on that as it could mess up the projection.

Continue “climbing” the rope until liberated from the physical body, all the while ignoring any sensations of vertigo, nausea, humming, warming, heaviness and/or tingling that may accompany the process. Any and all of these sensations are normal to a successful astral projection experience.

Variations of the rope method include the lift method, in which one visualizes him or herself pulling upward from the physical body and hovering above it; the roll out method, in which an individual envisions him or herself rolling to either side of the physical body (works best when lying down), as well as the fixed and moving anchor method.

In the former, one visualizes a stationary object toward which one then tries to pull oneself, while with the latter, one visualizes feeling the magnetic pull of the object, and thus exits the physical body. Once separated in this way, an individual’s astral body is free to explore all of time and space.

Astral projection methods take time to master. You will need to practice and learn the process. It is important to keep a positive attitude as you work. Your first attempts may not be successful, but you should keep trying. Unsuccessful attempts can be due to many different things like distractions, not being relaxed enough or not being in control of your mind or body.

The more dedicated the individual, however, the sooner he or she will be able to troubleshoot these issues, master the methods of astral projection, and ultimately, transcend the limitations of the physical body.
