Discover The Healing Power Of Music

Posted on Tuesday, July 6th, 2010 at 5:24 pm

No one can honestly say that music has never moved them; it’s there in the background of our lives all the time, unheralded. It’s an essential part of our rituals like weddings, funerals and christenings, and is there at ceremonies such as event openings and sporting clashes. It is at these time when people come together, all differences put aside, to share a great moment.

But how many of us could identify with being ‘healed’ and helped through music? Yes! Music is now being cited as a method for healing and helping, and much scientific research is being carried out to explore its richness. Needless to say, we, with all of our superior scientific technology in the early 21st century, are only really rediscovering what the ancients and mystics of all cultures have always known. Shamans throughout the ages have chanted and used drumming to heal and help people. The ancient mystery schools of Greece, Rome, Egypt, Tibet and India all held that sound was the primary creative force in the universe. And Pythagoras wasn’t only a master mathematician, he too taught about the healing power of how music helps.

Music is so much more than a quick fix, an emotional tonic. We’ve all done it, had the day from hell, come home and collapsed on the sofa to the soothing tones of our favourite CD. Slowly we begin to wind down and relax, start to feel more like ourselves, more together. But music does more than simply act as a pep pill, it can actually change the body’s physiology. Reseach in medicine is now showing a direct link between music and our body’s immune system, in the reduction of pain and even in hightening our mental reasoning and concentration.

An extraordinary example of this happened in the 1960’s in a simple Benedictine monastery in France. After the Vatican decided worship should be conducted in the national language rather than Latin, chanting was halted and instead other activities took place. It soon became clear a profound change had taken place within the community. The monks, who for years had survived on only three or four hours sleep at night without trouble, started to become tired and more prone to ill health. Despite being allowed more sleep the problem persisted. Likewise the introduction of more meat into their diet didn’t help and their health continued to fail. In the end the Abbot called in Dr Alfred Tomatis, a physician and ear specialist. After studying the problem he advised the re-introduction of chanting into the daily life of the monastery. Within nine months the majority of the monks had made a signal recovery and were back to their old selves, able to cope with their routine of lots of work and little sleep.

Don’t fear, you don’t need to learn Gregorian chant to get the benefits! Think of the ways that best suit you; huming on the way to work, whistling your favourite tune. Maybe get yourself an Ipod or MP3 and make your music more portable. More and more you will begin to realise that music gets your day off to a good start. Tune into the music and tune out of the stress, and watch your health improve.

Many of us would be able to name an occasion when we were deeply touched by how musicmusic helped us at a difficult point in us. In this feature, Cathy CoxCathy Cox explores how music has the power to heal us.

Used Hot Tubs: Arthritis Pain Gone

Posted on Saturday, May 8th, 2010 at 10:33 am

Overwhelming medical evidence confirms that for certain ailments such as arthritis, using hot tubs, used hot tubs or spas can help ease the pain. The Arthritis Foundation encourages its members to discuss this alternative therapy with their doctor. However word of mouth is the best form of advertising and because of the positive results, more and more people are jumping on the bandwagon.

Once the arthritis sufferer has been given the go ahead, may I suggest that prior to exercising, he or she should allow their body to warm up for a few minutes first. This is a common mistake that many people make before doing any type of physical activity. Warming up allows the muscles to get ready for the event and warming down allows the muscles to slowly return to earth. In other words there is no shock to the system, which can result in pulled muscles for example.

Exercising in a hot tub requires a strategy with goals. The key is to start with small movements and slowly build over a period of time, at your own pace. Don’t put yourself under any pressure initially, just slowly settle into it and enjoy the experience. This will keep you motivated to continue the therapy and persevere.

Once you are submerged below the water and can move about without pain or suffering, I think you’ll agree that this type of therapy is truly a miracle. The reality is that the gravitational pull reduces in the water and the warmth allows more blood and oxygen to run to the heart, skin and muscles.

The Arthritis Foundation should be able to give you sound advice on what exercises you should attempt when using hot tubs, used hot tubs or spas. If not then they will know someone who can. Ensure you follow the rules to avoid further injury but most of all enjoy that feeling of pain reduction and increased flexibility in your limbs. The results are truly awesome.

Posted on Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 at 8:46 am

Do you want to wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and can’t help but smile at the sunshine that has crept its method into your bedroom window? Do not you just want to get up feeling refreshed instead of tired? Do not you just want to sleep a very little longer on a bed that feels like your body simply fits in it simply fine? Doesn’t everybody need a style of this every night?

Well then, everyone can! How? With memory foam, that’s how - rather, that’s what. Memory foam is viscoelastic polyurethane foam that means that the material reacts to temperature. It becomes firm when the temperature is cooler and it becomes soft when the temperature becomes warmer. A perfect way to mould itself to the contours of your body! It’s most likely known as by this name as a result of it will memorize each in. of flesh that touches it.

Now, with such ability, you won’t be sleeping with pressure points and in return awaken while not any body parts aching. Yes, you’ll be able to say goodbye to backaches, tired shoulders, stiff necks, aching hips, and even tired legs. Not that you’ll be missing these, however you won’t be having these any longer.

It was back in 1991, when it was introduced into the general public market as the “Tempur-pedic Swedish Mattress” that the planet knew concerning such breakthrough. This later led to the creation of Tempur World, a mattress and cushion company specializing in memory foam products.

Generally, this was quite expensive when it initial came out and wasn’t practical for domestic use. It absolutely was then used medically, for patients who were bedridden or may need to stay in bed for quite a protracted time. Lying immobile in bed for a long amount of your time might cause bedsores or gangrene as pressures over some of their bony regions either decreased or stopped the flow of blood to alternative regions of the body. The memory foam was the solution to stop these cases.

But, as time slipped, it became cheaper, and there is a crowd of who currently obtain and use it domestically. Except for mattresses, they also have developed different versions of the product such as pillows, slippers, pads, and wheelchair cushions. A variety of medical cases have reduced as a result of of this, and a variety of folks have become additional snug and happy because of this discovery.

Since it’s been such a hit, there are a number of brands and product available in the market now. Some are of wonderful quality, whereas others are not. When selecting one, continuously remember that the memory foam is all regarding density. The higher the density, the longer the foam can hold its memory.

Usually it’s advisable to travel for three to five pound mattresses. They can hold the impressions longer. The 2-pound mattresses don’t have enough density to adapt to the body’s contours. The same applies to pillows, pads, cushions, and slippers. The heavier it is, the higher the density. If you’ll choose the initial complete that is Tempur-Pedic, it is better to try to to so. Different brands could not be as good in quality.

Massage Chairs Quiet Symptoms Induced From Stress

Posted on Thursday, September 24th, 2009 at 5:29 pm

We are now in turbulent times and stress is affecting us more now than ever before. The psychological impact of what we call stress is a constant churning of the problem in the mind. Our bodies are not able to release this stress as it is mainly a product of the mind. One excellent form of stress relief for both body and mind are massage chairs.

There are many ways that you could come under stress. They may be outside events that impact your life and force some level of change on you. They can happen for positive things like getting married or having a baby or they can happen for negative things like losing your job or a death in the family.

Your mind is the trigger that sets in motion a series of physical events in your body. Your body will divert blood to the major organs and suppress it from less vital functions. Your skin may go cold and clammy. You may get goose bumps. Your breathing will increase to provide more oxygen to your body. Your muscles will tighten and be ready for action.

The psychological effects of stress can be memory disturbances, mood swings, anxiety, depression and irritability. People that come under stress may not be able to focus on accomplishing a given task. They may also have problems with outbursts of anger.

Even though these symptoms can be hard to deal with, there are treatments that can help you through the stressful time and beyond. Sometimes the majority of symptoms disappear when the source of the stress fades. Other times it can linger long beyond the initial source of stress.

They say the only constant in life is change. Most (if not all) people do not like change. Our perception is that if there is no change, then there is no stress. If change is constant, then in essence, so can stress be constant. Therefore, we must find productive ways to deal with stress, since it is not going away any time soon.

One of the most effective methods of stress relief is massage treatments. The relaxing environment and the working out of stress in the body through massage therapy helps reduce the symptoms of stress. As stress has increased in our modern world, so has the demand for massage therapy. In fact, the demand for massage therapy has doubled in the last 10 years.

When you are under stress, your muscles are ready to fight. They are tense and ready for action. The problem is that no action is taken. The mind ruminates on the stressor causing the physical symptoms to persist. Massage therapy helps to quiet the mind. As the mind relaxes the muscles become less tense. The massage works the muscles to flush toxins and to soothe them.

Massage chairs can work wonders on relieving stress. A massage chair recliner has a variety of soothing massage techniques including, Swedish, Shiatsu, deep tissue, sports massage, kneading, chopping and finger press to name a few. They also come with supplemental therapies such as heat, traction systems and even music therapy.

Get a massage chair to help relieve your stress. Imagine that you are stressed. You take a quick 15 minutes to sit down in your massage recliner. Put on the headphones and start the music. Select an overall body massage and relax. The massage chair begins to soothe your tight muscles. The music cuts out the environment and you close your eyes and let your mind quiet. Fifteen minutes later, you have a new attitude and outlook on life.

Our world is undergoing rapid change and it doesnt look like that is going to ease up soon. This will cause us more change and stress. We need to find effective ways to cope with the stress and help us to work through these trying times. A massage chair can work wonders on relieving your stress.
