Here Is What I Really Yearn About Massage Chairs

Posted on Monday, September 12th, 2011 at 1:11 pm

It is amazing out how common massage chairs have become in our society. We see them in many different places like shopping malls and car washes. Many people own them and have them in their homes or even in their offices. Massage chairs are much more than just a feel-good item. They provide many different therapeutic benefits. Here are some of the things I most like about a massage chair.

Massage therapy is one of the great natural therapies available to us. By simply performing motions that stretch the soft tissues and muscles, relief can be provided while enhancing the health and well-being of different parts of your body.

You know the thing I really like about my massage chair is that it is always waiting for me. However, unlike a dog, it fits me rather than the other way around. I know I get tired of letting my dog after a while. The good thing about my massage chair is that it never gets tired of petting me.

My massage chair conveniently fits around my schedule. I have the ability to receive massage therapy on demand. I never know when I will come under stress or when a muscle will ache. I don’t have to make a prior appointment. I just need to sit down for a few minutes and get work done.

Massage chairs are great for relieving specific areas. They typically have massage programs that do full body massage. However, sometimes more importantly is to receive focused relief. If you have stiffness in your shoulders, then it is better to target the massage to relieve that specific area.

A massage chair is great for hitting your sore spots. Sometimes the best way to hit your sore spots is with one of the automatic programs. Other times it may be more effective to take manual control of the remote. This enables you to guide the massage rollers to exactly the spot you need. Let it sit there until relief is obtained.

My massage chair makes a great warm-up massage. I usually use the automatic massage program to slowly wake up my body. I like the massage to start out slow with some gentle stretching. Then I like that the intensity builds and really starts to loosen me up while relaxing in my mind.

There is simply nothing better than coming home after a long day in getting a quick 10 minute rejuvenation massage. This type of quick and convenient massage helps me change my attitude after a long day. I let the massage chair work its magic and to relieve stress and tension from the days activities.

My massage chair has definitely helped my relationship at home. Whenever tensions flare, is a provider of sanctuary. It is nice to be able to get some relaxation after going through a stressful event. This helps both of us to bridge the gaps and to calm our discussions peacefully.

The thing I like most about my massage chair is that it just doesn’t get tired of me. No matter what I ask it to do, it does it. It doesn’t complain, it doesn’t take coffee breaks, and it just does what I tell it to do. What better way to get a massage, then with your own massage chair.

You absolutely need to get a massage chair. Discover more about Massage Chair Features to assist identify what you want in a massage chair. You can certainly find many massage chairs, but there are vey few Massage Chairs I Like. It is a personal thing and you want to make sure you get a massage chair that fits your needs.

The Escrima Sword and Dagger Technique

Posted on Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 at 11:35 am

One of the most impressive and, one could say, beautiful, techniques in the Filipino Martial Art of escrima must be the Espada Y Daga. Espada Y Daga comes from the Spanish phrase “sword and dagger”, and as the name implies, is performed with two weapons. Usually the longer weapon (which can sometimes be replaced with a stick) makes the first move followed by the shorter and quicker knife weapon. This is inherently a close range combat technique, where the weaker and farther knife hand can already stab the opponent.

You can find this technique in many of the major styles of escrima, such as Lightning Scientific Arnis, Modern Arnis, and Lameco Eskrima. But this is only taught much later in the training of the fighter, after he has become fluent in the basics of pure stick fighting. And usually it is taught first with just a stick and an open palm. The last stage of training may include training with live blades which could injure the person wielding them if he’s not careful.

Though it may be difficult at first, eventually those who master the espada y daga can perform alternating attacks at breathtaking speeds, attacks which can no longer be anticipated by the opponent. Also, the master of espada y daga no longer has to rely on predetermined combinations but can completely improvise, targeting different parts of the opponent’s body at his choosing. In this way the opponent is literally “chopped to pieces.”

Though some have claimed that espada y daga reveals Spain’s influence in the Filipino Martial Arts, it has been conceded that Spanish sword fighting is very different and could not have been the origin of this technique. Rather, the espada y daga has its roots much further back, perhaps in the native warrior clans that lived in different islands of the Philippines. Only the name was changed, which is understandable given the almost three-hundred years of Spanish colonization. In fact, many escrima moves were also given Spanish names, such as “serrada” (closed fighting), “kambio” (angular footwork), and “segida” (linear footwork).

Is this technique still useful in the modern age, especially given the popularity of firearms? Add to that the fact that it is impossible to carry bladed weapons in many countries, unless you want to get arrested. Some escrima practitioners insist that the espada y daga techniques can also be translated into empty hand combat. Others also emphasize its usefulness with modern police weapons such as the baton and handcuffs. There are also those who appreciate espada y daga for the aesthetics of it, the graceful and continuous motion that almost resembles the Filipino Martial Art version of a ballet performance.

Whatever the motivation, a constant reminder is that one should be a responsible individual when learning such an art. The best way to win in a fight is to just completely avoid it in the first place. However, when unsought danger threatens your life or the people you love, then such a technique may come in handy for effective self-defense.

The author has been practicing the martial art of escrima for more than six years, and is a certified instructor (third-degree black belt). One of his main goals is to provide ordinary people with only the most practical knife fighting techniques. You can learn escrima knife fighting now.

A Review of Floro Knife Fighting Techniques

Posted on Wednesday, June 8th, 2011 at 10:13 am

I’ve been interested in the Ray Floro fighting system for several years now, after first seeing their short Youtube video, “The Seven Vital Truths of Edged Weapons”. But it’s only now that I got to finally download their video course. I was skeptical at first, but after watching I’ve turned into a kind of believer. I’ve been practicing escrima for more than six years and have already earned my third-degree black belt, but if I were really honest I’d say not all my knife fighting skills will work in a real life fight. Ray Floro gives some of the simplest and most effective techniques guaranteed to work in real life, and he’s stripped away all those elaborate, showy moves.

Lesson one starts off with the signature reverse grip for knife which is the standard knife grip in FFS. This reverse grip allows for the “non-telegraphic” strike, which is a straight linear thrust at the opponent. It’s called non-telegraphic because the opponent can’t see or anticipate it until it’s too late. It’s only the arm that moves during delivery; there’s no preparatory movement from the shoulders, torso, or legs. I must add that the move is well thought-out and scientific in its principles. It was designed for the fastest attack possible, faster than any circular slash with a knife. I also like how Ray Floro immediately goes into sparring to prove the effectiveness of his techniques.

In lesson two Ray Floro also shows us an amazing innovation, of still being able to do a slash attack just with the linear motion given in lesson one. All it takes is pressing three of the fingers in the middle of an attack. This further showcases the advantages of the reverse grip since you can actually hook slash the inner arm of your opponent. Ray Floro also introduces variations of defences and blocks using this slash knife movement. At the very last part he introduces the lunging footwork which he adopted almost exclusively from fencing. Coupled with the linear attack thrust of the knife, this linear footwork makes for one of the fastest attacks I’ve ever seen in martial arts.

The third lesson takes a different route from the first two lessons, now introducing the student to the close range fighting of FFS. It begins with the main concern of the ordinary citizen which is unarmed defense against knife. I think Ray Floro may not have the absolutely best kind of defense in the “universal shield” which he proposes here (perhaps there are other better defenses out there), but this universal shield seems to be most compatible with the knife weapon and the rest of FFS, such as when intercepting the opponent’s arm and “shearing” it.

Lesson four covers an element which I think few martial arts really deal with in their curriculum, faking and deceiving the opponent. It’s such a shame, because fakes often come out during sparring sessions, and also in real life fights. The Floro Fighting System has clear theories in this area. One of the simplest and yet most startling techniques is “the stare” which uses the opponent’s tendency to look at your eyes, and use it against him. I think the stare technique plus the non-telegraphic strikes of Ray Floro make his system one of the most unpredictable fighting systems out there. You just can’t anticipate what the person will throw at you, because deceiving is part of the very system itself.

The fifth lesson gives some of the advanced concepts of the system, such as the pivot leg movement which completely evades a lunging knife attack, useful when you’re facing an experienced FFS fighter. Ray Floro also introduces an elbow and forearm jam which resembles some moves in Wing Chun. And finally my favorite is the shuffling legwork he uses to close very long distances. If I might add, it confuses the enemy too. It’s like a faking motion with the legs.

Given all these lessons, I don’t hesitate to call the Ray Floro video course the best knife fighting video course I’ve ever seen. What makes it so good is its emphasis on simplicity and fatal efficiency. There seems to be a tendency to treat knife fighting as something completely out of reach for even professional martial artists. As if it can only be learned by Green Berets or NAVY Seals. Ray Floro has done a great job of making all these knife fighting skills accessible to anyone who wants to learn them.

The writer is a third-degree black belt (certified instructor) in the Filipino martial art of escrima. His passion is to share only the most useful escrima knife fighting techniques for self-defense with ordinary people who cannot be full-time martial artists. Can You Even Protect Your Girlfriend from a Knife Criminal?

Posted on Sunday, June 5th, 2011 at 12:53 pm

Or will you just stand still, shocked? Knife threats and knife crimes are arguably one of the most traumatic and bloodiest events that one can experience, but it’s also true that it happens in the streets of almost every city. Before you even think about how you can win against the knife, here’s one of the most important pieces of advice you will ever hear, and it’s a rule that has saved people’s lives. If you can avoid a knife fight altogether by giving the criminal your cell phone, wallet, cash or credit card, just do it. No material possession is worth risking your life for, and even if you win you might have to sustain knife wounds on your face and body, loss of blood, and lifelong physical and emotional scars. And this is doubly true if you have another person with you. Protect that person just by handing some stupid things over.

Another really good advice you’ll hear, if you can avoid the fight by just running away and leaving the scene, then go for it. Again it’s not worth risking your life for, especially if the person is just taunting you or intimidating you in a bar but without any serious intention to kill. You have better things to do with your life than pick on this person, such as earning a decent living for your family, and just enjoying time with your special girl.

But then there’s the last possibility, where you just have to fight or die. This happens in cases when the aggressor is someone who is not in his right senses, perhaps because of being drunk or high on drugs. In such cases he may have a serious intention to kill. Hopefully this will never happen to you. But this is the part where we have to ask, are you capable of defending yourself or the people you love if and when it comes?

The dangerous thing about knife attacks on the street is that they’re very intense and unpredictable, and not like what you see in the movies or inside the martial arts training gym. In fact, there have been many cases where martial artists have tried to defend themselves but were badly injured or killed because their moves didn’t work. A crazy criminal does not attack in a predictable way in a single angle. They attack with usually more than ten stabs, from different angles, over and over again.

Instead of fancy martial arts classes what you really need is an instinctive and instant response with just a few moves. A few moves proven to work, which will be able to deflect the knife and do enough damage to the criminal so that he will be incapacitated, and so you can safely run away or get help.

The Floro Fighting System taught by Ray Floro is considered one of the most effective systems for knife defensein the world, focusing on real life situations. It can be learned by ordinary people who do not have time for regular martial arts training, and focuses on just a few moves that can be practiced at home. The only thing to remember is to practice it often, until it becomes almost automatic. Ray Floro has had experience in several martial arts such as Kali-Escrima (master instructor), Karate, Fencing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, etc. and has only chosen those moves which are guaranteed to work.

His two-and-a-half hour training video used to be very expensive, at $119.00 (it still is in their original website!), especially since it is also used to train law enforcement and military personnel, but now you can get it at 60% off in downloadable movie format, for only $44.00 by clicking on this link below. Also comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. Try it now and be able to defend yourself.
