How To Unwind From A Stressful Day Through Meditation

Posted on Monday, August 2nd, 2010 at 11:47 am

People tend to have busier lifestyles today, and this has brought with it an increase in the number of people that have taken up meditation in order to try to relax their minds and calm down.

There are many different ways to meditate. Meditation is all about focusing your energies by concentration methods. You can sit and stare at objects in your surroundings, you could concentrate on your breathing or you could focus your attention on a certain sound that you can hear.

Joan Borysenko a doctor of body and mind refers to meditation as something that allows you to focus all your attention on the present while shutting out the past.

There are commonly two types of meditation that can be used by people. By far the most popular meditation would be the concentrative method. This method allows you to focus your mind on your breathing or on a certain sound.

The breathing part of this type of meditation involves listening and concentrating on your breathing. You carry on concentrating until your breathing eventually slows down to a relaxed pace and you feel calm. This breathing reflects how relaxed you have become and how free from any anxieties.

The second method of meditation involves focusing on your surroundings this type of meditation is known as mindfulness.

Focusing your attention on the surroundings sounds quite simple but you have to try and not react to anything that goes on around you whilst you are doing this.

Meditation certainly has its benefits and can prove to be very good at letting people get rid of all their cares and troubles. It sometimes takes a little practice to get the technique just right. But if you do practice and find the right technique for you it could help to give you more peace of mind and make you more carefree and relaxed.

Posted on Sunday, July 11th, 2010 at 9:01 am

Stress will help you every now and then to really push yourself for the deadline or do something that you would otherwise not have done; however how much stress do we really need? Excessive stress on the other hand has adverse effects on both our mental and physical health, this article will examine the physiology of stress and why you should learn how to handle them effectively.

Besides affecting your mental health, here are some other ways that excessive stress can kill you:

Firstly, we experience the fight or flight mode, a change in the state and physio of our body that includes several different hormones and chemicals being released into our body such as adrenaline and endorphins. Heart rate will go up together with your blood pressure and blood flow can slow down for several parts of our organs. This mechanism is in place to gives us the sudden burst of energy for survival, one that is necessary back in the past.

After the threat is over, your body will then start on the next stage where it will repair tissues that was damaged during the fight or flight mode, and this is called the stress resistance. Normal function of our body will begin again, but we are still somewhat on an alert mode.

The final physiological change in our body is the stress exhaustion stage; at this stage it can be potentially harmful, especially if we go through this stage often. Our cardiovascular system will suffer due to the overabundance of various chemicals produced during the first stage and as such will cause our immune system to be suppressed.

This is the main reason why cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke and heart diseases are most commonly linked to high level of stress. Another way it can be harmful to us is that it can lead to the formation of stomach ulcers due to a weakened immune system, and it will affect our eating habits.

Going through high level of stress can also affect our sleeping pattern as well as our sexual desire and performance, you will also find that we are more susceptible to headaches and body aches.

The worst part about having excess stress in our life is that it often escalates our current health complication, especially complication that involves our nervous system. Escalation of chronic pain, bowel disorders and digestive problems are not uncommon when someone with the condition undergoes a stressful period.

Get Rid Of Stress Forever

Posted on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Stress is a big problem in a lot of our lives. Whether it’s work, school, home or something else, something is always just around the corner to make us worry and fret.

You don’t have to live like this, however. You wouldn’t believe how many effective methods there are to calm down. All you need to do is keep focused and not lose track of your goals.

An easy way to reduce stress is to never over-commit. You have to be able to refuse to do certain things. No matter how hard you try, you can never fit more time in a single day. The simple truth is you need to prioritize what you want to do.

Also, you need to learn how to compartmentalize your life, leaving work at work and vice versa. Often you won’t be able to make any changes and you will just fret needlessly. Wait until you can actually deal with the issue. Not everything can be sorted out right away.

Sleep is a major stress-eliminator. To get a good night’s sleep, you need to establish a good sleeping habit. You should find ways to relax and calm yourself so that sleep will come easier. Soothing music, a good book or magazine, anything that will help you become at ease and fall asleep right away.

The reason that sleep is so important is that you are only going to be more stressed if you aren’t sleeping. Then, that added stress will lead to more trouble sleeping. It’s a vicious cycle that you need to break as soon as possible.

Finally, if you really want to reduce stress, don’t be everyone’s go to person. It’s fine to help people out from time to time. Just know when enough is enough.

Remember, no one is immortal. Once you remember this, you will understand that you can step back and let some of those problems go.
