Why Meditation Is Good For You
Posted on Monday, August 2nd, 2010 at 11:47 amThe world that we live in today seems to have brought with it a lot busier lifestyle than we used to have. This is why more and more people have started turning their attentions to meditation as a way of relieving the anxieties of the day and trying to relax once they get home either at night or at the weekend.
Meditation is the art of concentrating all of your energies onto one individual element. It can be something as simple as concentrating on a certain sound in your vicinity, a certain object that you can focus on or just concentrating on listening to your breathing.
As one specialist doctor in mind and body medicine once said “meditation can be almost anything that can focus ones mind on the present” What this means is that by concentrating you can leave your troubles behind and just think of the here and now.
Meditation can be broken down into two groups. First we have concentrative meditation which basically means concentrating your mind on to one particular element such as your breathing or a certain noise that you can hear.
One way that this could be done is to sit in a quiet room and just listen to your breathing. By focusing on how you are breathing you will gradually see that the breathing will slow to a nice calm pace. Once you have achieved this you will notice that your worries and anxieties have all but disappeared.
The second meditation approach is to focus all your attention onto your surroundings. This type of approach is what is known as mindfulness meditation.
But while you are focusing the idea is that you do not react in any way to anything that is going on around you. It is just a case of focusing and blocking out the material world.
Meditation has different benefits for different users. It has proved reliable in easing stress and anxiety in certain people by the slowing down of their breathing and the lowering of their pulse rate. Meditation can also make a person sharper with their reactions and more aware of everything that is happening around them.
