Try These Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Exercises Without Resorting to Surgery

You can just take three minutes out of your day to do carpal exercises and give yourself a lot of relief. That’s not much time, considering you’re probably awake at least 15 hours a day. To get relief from carpal tunnel syndrome, you’re going to do exercises probably 45 minutes a day, but you can do them three minutes at a time. Is that worth getting relief from carpal tunnel syndrome, or even avoiding getting it at all?

What you need to do is to be smart about your carpal tunnel exercises. Don’t say, “I don’t have time,” because three minutes is all you need at any one time, and you certainly have that. You have the time to do it, as long as you’re smart about it. Think about how much time you spend on your cell phone or checking e-mails. If you can do that, you can do carpal tunnel exercises.

Three minutes to relief

Every hour, do at least one exercise. Depending on what you do at work, you can even do them for up to five minutes. Start small and increase your efforts as you go, though. And if you feel like you’re straining your arms such that you’re getting “carpal tunnel syndrome” symptoms, stop. Do an exercise such as we’ll lay out for you and then continue with work. If you’re having no problems, just do the exercises once every hour.

Wrist Circles

We like this exercise because it’s easy. Have you ever seen an umpire signal a homerun? This is something like you’re going to do for this particular exercise, except you’re going to extend your index and middle fingers and then do a clockwise motion. Do both hands, alternating between the two of them.

You can alternate the fingers for a really good workout. Use the middle and index fingers for the first set, and then the middle and ring fingers for the second set. Do this exercise until you’ve gone to reach of the fingers, but make sure the fingers are always adjacent to each other. Your wrists should feel much better when you’re done.

Forgetting to Remember

There are probably going to be days when you forget to do your exercises, but don’t let that stop you. Start off with something like the “wrist circles” exercise, which is easy. You’ll also be able to fight carpal tunnel and continue working without having to pause.

We also recommend that you do a couple carpal tunnel exercises in the morning when you get up and before you go to bed. It’s just a good way to start and end your day. If we can teach you to think smart about your exercises, then the routines will come natural. The end result is you will prevent yourself from having to deal with carpal tunnel syndrome all together.
