Weight Loss And Meditation

It’s strange to think that sitting still in deep relaxation or meditation - either using traditional techniques or using a modern mind machine like the MindSpa system - can help us to lose weight.

When we think of things that will help us with weight loss, we would normally think of changing our diet (so that we don’t consume so many calories) or performing physical exercise (so that we burn off surplus calories).

And of course it’s true that if we eat less and exercise more, we will lose weight. But the important thing to remember is that without the right mental conditioning, our attempts to lose weight will like be doomed to failure.

One of the best ways to attain the correct state of mind that leads to an effective and prolonged reduction in weight is meditation. There are a number of reasons why meditation can help you achieve your weight loss goals.

First, meditation can help you to build the discipline that is necessary for you to carry out your exercise programme and stick to your healthy diet. Meditation is like doing mental exercise. And in the same way as when you do physical exercise you become physically stronger, spending time in meditation each day, or even three or four times a week, will help you to become mentally stronger.

Instead of giving in to your urges to eat chocolates and biscuits, you’ll start to have the mental strength to overcome them. Instead of finding excuses to justify not going for a walk or jog, you’ll find reasons to motivate you to do your exercise.

Secondly, meditation can do even more than build mental resolve. Meditation will automatically lead you to a better state of physical and mental well-being and before long, your body will start to regulate itself and naturally aim for a state of optimal health. This means that over time, your desire for unhealthy foods will reduce and physical exercise will become something that you look forward to.

Thirdly, psychologists have been aware for some time that visualisation exercises can be key in achieving goals. Many athletes, such as Tiger Woods and Roger Federer, mentally rehearse their games and visualise themselves winning tournaments as part of their training systems. In the context of losing weight, for example, you could picture yourself taking part in physical exercise and enjoying your improved physical appearance. Or, perhaps you could see yourself eating healthy food and wearing clothes that previously didn’t fit you.

The point is, however, that this kind of creative visualisation is particularly effective when you are in the deep states of mind that meditation brings. When you are in a state of meditation, you can directly talk to your subconscious and embed the instructions that will program your mind to achieve its goals. In effect, you’ll be changing your body by changing your mind.

There are many ways you can learn to meditate. Some people will prefer the more traditional methods, while others may find modern techniques, such as using a MindSpa Meditation Machine, to be faster and easier. The MindSpa system uses your brains natural tendency to follow the frequency of light and sound to gently and automatically guide you into deeper states of mind and it can offer an alternative route to the benefits of meditation. Whichever method you decide to use to learn to meditate, regular meditation will ensure success for your weight loss programme.
